My mission is to change the perspective and experience of people who are looking at entering the Swiss job market.
I grew up in Russia. I was raised by my mother who was a single parent. Due to the hard economic surroundings during my time – my mother found herself being an entrepreneur.
She sold initially newspapers and as her business confidence grew, she moved on to selling agricultural seeds and chemicals on farmer’s market. To be honest, she sold everything she could get her hands on: apples and parsley from our garden, mushrooms she picked in the forest, berries, you name it. I was lucky to help her and from her, I learnt a lot about business and perseverance.
From the money my mother was making, through all her different business ventures, I managed to get a good education which led me to have a good job plus finding my way to Switzerland to study for my PhD.
When the opportunity to come to Switzerland came – I did all I could to ensure I did not let it pass. I borrowed money from my friends and family to pay for my flight to the job interview. My thought was once I can do a PhD in Switzerland – all my problems would disappear…. (Isn’t it funny how we always think things are easier and better on the other side?!) I came to Switzerland with high hopes. However – my hopes were soon to be crushed!
I graduated with good grades and I had a career path clearly written and a plan on how I was going to achieve it. I can tell you this: nothing went according to plan. Absolutely nothing!
