In 2005 I graduated with Diploma in Business Administration with focus on HR. I decided to become a recruiter and sent over 500 applications in a month resulting in 5 job interviews and no job offers. Sad statistics, but those were the times of financial crisis in Germany and my situation was no exception but quite a usual one for that time. Besides I had no work experience, which didn’t improve my job search results.
As I haven’t had a recruiter job yet – I decided to go in sales starting as a promoter. It turned out I was good at it, my efforts were recognized and soon I was assigned to train people in sales and promotion all over Germany. But I still dreamed to be a recruiter and didn’t intend to give up on my dream so easily (I’m a stubborn guy). So I kept applying to different recruitment agencies.
There was one particular agency I wanted to work for: huge company with offices all over Germany, very impressive and quite famous. I applied and soon was invited for a job interview, but unfortunately wasn’t selected for the role. After that I figured I can trick the system and applied to the same company again – but in a different town. So I was invited for the interview again – and again wasn’t selected! And then I did it 6 times more: the whole process repeated including rejection in 6 different towns. During the 7th job interview I told my interviewer about this and assured her that if I will be rejected again – I will apply again very soon. To my surprise, instead of getting angry, she was impressed and asked me in which location I wanted to start!
